Dropshippers Allow You to Start Your Business on a Small Budget
By Alan Kirchain
Maybe you already have an e-business or possibly have dabbled with eBay auctions. If you’re considering expanding your business, using dropshippers can make this easy.
Certain elements of the business need to be considered when employing dropshipping services. For example, what is the best method for establishing a relationship with a supplier? Does the dropshipper send products out one at a time? Is this supplier reliable and do they have a proven track record? In addition, are they truly a wholesale source? As a result, when choosing the sourcing companies, you should do your due diligence in investigating them to make a wise decision about who to go with.
The quickest way to establish a relationship with a product vendor is to have a wholesale or dropshipping directory. Knowing who to contact for what is important to your product sourcing supply line. Phone numbers and addresses as well as other critical items are the kind of information you’ll find in a wholesale directory. As for the supplier themselves, they may require that you provide them with credit or resale ID information. Additionally, they may want other business documentation, which is relatively standard in the industry.
When considering a dropshipper you’ll want to choose one that has a proven track record. Knowing that they have done business with others in the past will give you a certain level of comfort in their ability to deliver products to your customers in a timely fashion. This will allow you to have a more stable business model, giving you better leverage to expand your business on an ongoing basis.
Another thing is, does the dropshipper send products out individually or do they send them all out at one-time to you directly? If the latter’s the case, you’ll have to reship to your customer from your warehouse or office. Knowing this upfront will allow you to make key decisions on how to handle shipping costs that may need to be passed on to your customers.
Last but not least, an extremely important item to consider is that the company you’re dealing with be a true product sourcing company. Many companies out there advertise themselves as dropshippers but are really just middlemen pretending to be wholesale sources and then reselling to you. So, be careful; a lot of scammers will offer directories and lists of companies that allegedly wholesale and dropship, but the information is usually junk.
When you want to start dealing with dropshippers, it’s best to establish a solid relationship from the beginning. Getting started on the right foot will pay dividends long term.
